Hebrews 5

The Perfect High Priest

1For every high priest ataken from among men is appointed on behalf of men in bthings pertaining to God, in order to coffer both gifts and sacrifices dfor sins; 2
Lit being able to
,
fhe can deal gently with the gignorant and hmisguided, since he himself also is
Or subject to weakness
,
jbeset with weakness;
3and because of it he is obligated to offer sacrifices kfor sins, las for the people, so also for himself. 4And mno one takes the honor to himself, but receives it when he is called by God, even nas Aaron was.

5So also Christ odid not glorify Himself so as to become a phigh priest, but He who qsaid to Him, rYou are My Son,
Today I have begotten You”;

6just as He says also in another passage, sYou are a priest forever
According to t the order of Melchizedek.”

7
I.e. during Christ’s earthly life
In the days of His flesh,
Lit who having offered up
,
wHe offered up both prayers and supplications with xloud crying and tears to the One yable to save Him
Or out of
from death, and He
Lit having been heard
was heard because of His abpiety.
8Although He was aca Son, He learned adobedience from the things which He suffered. 9And having been made aeperfect, He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation, 10being designated by God as afa high priest according to agthe order of Melchizedek.

11Concerning
Lit whom or which
him we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.
12For though
Lit because of the time
by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you ajthe
Lit elements of the beginning
,
alelementary principles of the amoracles of God, and you have come to need anmilk and not solid food.
13For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an aoinfant. 14But solid food is for apthe mature, who because of practice have their senses aqtrained to ardiscern good and evil.
